From JFK to Paris
(Paris lit up at 4 am their time)
and from Paris to Prague!
A rainbow followed our plane from Paris to Prague, which I thought was a good sign.
The arrival in Paris was marred only by the giant poster of a giant shark mouth. I suspect the problem is an upcoming Shark Week. Damn you, Discovery Channel.
I arrived in Prague after several hours of flying, and a few hours of shmoozing (Alana would be so proud). I shmoozed my way to a few new friends (I hope!), one of whom was kind enough to carry one of my bags up the four flights of stairs later in the day.
Almost immediately after getting off the plane, I was greeted by a poster advertising hockey. The team is Sparta, and I rather like the ads. I might not if I knew what they said, but I don't know what they said, so I do like them.
Ignore the website bits- I had to pull this image from the team's website. The only thing I know about this is that it ends in "Jsem Sparta"- "I am Sparta".
I passed six more on the way to my dorm. The trip to my dorm was rather grim and unnerving. The majority of the buildings outside of Prague seemed to be standard 1950's depressing square buildings, as opposed to the beauty I was promised.
Fortunately, we arrived in Prague after about a half hour, and I proceeded to grin like an idiot for the rest of the bus ride. EVERY SINGLE BUILDING is absolutely stunning; I couldn't decide what to take pictures of because every time I went to turn I wanted to take another picture. We even passed the Dancing House on the way to the dorm!
The other buildings were more classical- columns and pediments and statuary, oh my!
We were taken for a walk around the area so we could learn where we are so we don't get lost. I already led two kids back to the dorm after we got separated from the group. It's pretty gray here, and sort of cold (although I was shockingly not freezing today. In fact, I felt positively fine), but I think I'm really going to like it.
Also, I bought a box of pancake mix, a thing of yogurt, and a little container of Nutella for about $5 total, so that doesn't hurt. Don't judge me on the Nutella; I need the jar it comes in. Really. The fact that it happens to be a delicious chocolatey snack is just a coincidence.
We're going out for dinner later, so I'm going to take a nap right now. I think I'm going to try real Czech beer tonight! Hurrah!
